Christian Articles of Interest - Week of November 19th
At least once a week, I’d like to post a collection of links to articles that I have found interesting reading lately. Here’s our first installment - enjoy!
We’ll start with a devotional from Pastor Greg Laurie of Harvest.org.
From a blog on Biblical Preaching:
From SAWorship.com, a fantastic article with ideas on some ways to get involved in the church. This relates to my Gideon post earlier this week:
From the News-Enterprise of Elizabethtown, KY, proof that sometimes the simplest ways are great ways to share God’s love:
Something to get your blood boiling from New Zealand:
In case you needed any more proof that THE key is the preaching of the Word Of God….
And that’s it for this week - Have A Very Happy Thanksgiving!

I really liked the article about Willow Creek, I have read some of Hybels’ stuff and I think he has some solid ideas that come from scripture, but obviously this was not one of them. It just goes to show you that all of us can be decieved if we are not careful to study what the actually Word says.
As a side note - I love listening to John MacArthur - 8:00 - 8:30 on WTRU, I’m sure you’ve heard him before but I just think his preaching is excellent because he goes verse by verse through scripture - he has been in one of the gospels at his church now for like 9 years now and I think he is about half way through. John Piper also preaches most of his messages in a verse by verse fashion. I believe this type of expository preaching is precious and something the church must protect. If we are “preaching to people’s needs” we should be preaching the Bible, nothing more, nothing less - isn’t a better understanding of God’s Book to us really what we all need any way?

What I got out of the Willow Creek article was that you can do all the church marketing you want and bring people in - but for it to result in “disciple making,” the core and focus of the message has to be the Word. 9 years in one gospel seems a little much for me - but the idea is a solid one. Too many preachers now-a-days water down the message so as not to offend or turn away people, which I think is a real problem.
I know Debbie likes John MacArthur - I try to listen to James MacDonald’s daily podcast on my way to work (Ipods are an amazing invention!).
This is definitely an important discussion as Glenwood looks for a new pastor. I would imagine that a major consideration will be what kind of preacher he or she will be.

GOSPEL LETTER
Faith in God is believing that God is and is a rewarder of them that diligently seek Him. Faith in God boils down to just one thing, will you trust Him in life’s greatest trials? Paul the Apostle was a prisoner on a ship, when a great storm arose. The ship was in great danger of sinking, but God spoke to Paul by an angel who told him that if they all stayed in the ship it would not sink, and they would all be saved.
What trust this took, how many of us would have tried some other way, maybe by swimming, or clinging to some piece of old wood. Paul’s words of faith and trust in God brought them all to safety, but the ship was lost. Dear Saints, when the wind blows and the storms of life crashes against you, hold on tight to God’s promises and rest in His peace, for He said, “ I am mightier than the noise of many waters, yea, than the mighty waves of the sea”, {Psalm 93 v 4}. Jesus was in a boat in lake Galilee when a great storm arose, yes He was fast asleep, but His disciples were in great panic and distress.
How could Jesus sleep through such a storm? Because He totally trusted His Heavenly Father. In great panic His disciples shook Him and woke Him up, and said “don’t you care if we perish? ”Jesus replied,” “Where is your faith?” And He gave a command for the storm to cease. And if you put your total unwavering trust in Him, He will command that storm in your life to cease. So, trust your heavenly Father as Jesus did, and be at peace in the storms of life, for it is written, “ Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace whose mind is staid on thee, trust ye in the Lord forever for in the Lord Jehovah is everlasting strength”, {Isaiah 26 v 3& 4}.

Prophecy 2.7.08
The Lord said continue to send my angels out, to the north, to the south, to the east and the west. To the four corners of the earth. The blessings of the Lord shall come to thee like the four winds saith the Lord. Do not go into detail of wisdom of my Word, for wisdom comes from the Lord and cannot be learned, for the wisdom of men, learning of my Word brings confusion. Remember what I said unto you do not think. You cannot understand the seasons, how do you think that you could possibly understand me.
