SPECIAL SHINE BLOG CONTEST
Okay, let’s get serious. To help publicize this fantastic blog-able church website that Brian Beasley has put together for everyone, I am taking the liberty of creating a formal and official “special blog contest,” to include a valuble prize (Rick, no fooling). Everyone is eligible to play. Rules and prize information follow. But first, here are the six contest questions. GOOD LUCK:
1.) On the Christian Endeavor “Always Loved You” CD cover image, if a person were to walk past the cross and continue down through the woods for 100 yards, that person would: (a) cross highway 86 (b) see a water tower (c) need a canoe (d) discover a spooky abandoned cabin (e) find Traci Carter hiding with squad III.
2.) On the closing track of the CD “Always Loved You,” what word (noun) is used exactly four times in the lyric?
3.) On track 11, what is Tim’s last name?
4.) If the track times for even numbered songs are added together, then multiplied by the church’s street address, and finally divided the number of books in the Old Testament whose titles feature the letter “Z”, what number is produced?
5.) On this mysterious spot at Glenwood a person who comes to SHINE from Virginia in the month of October can see four of these. All four are different. [Stay tuned to this blog for additional clues in the coming days.]
6.) Return to the cover image, and imagine walking in the opposite direction until you arrive at a quaint and peaceful church graveyard. There you will find a stone edifice bearing the names of Revolutionary War soldiers. How many soldiers’ names appear on that graveyard monument? (a) twelve (b) seventeen (c) twenty-six (d) thirty-three (e) forty-one
RULES: Submit your answers to Kevin in person, or by email to ksmith@policehelp.net. A winner will be announced at SHINE on Sunday evening, October 26 (answers must be received prior to Oct. 26, of course). You must be present at SHINE to win. A drawing will be conducted in the event of a tie. PRIZE: $25 Gift Certificate to TRIPPS Restaurant.
In the meantime, I hope everyone will enjoy this great website for the Glenwood Presbyterian Church! SHINE ON!
While Kevin asks you to email the answers to him, you may also post them as comments to this blog - in fact, my answers follow below…
By the way, Kevin Smith has now been given authoring rights on the SHINE blog so that his wit isn’t buried in the comments. Kevin - instructions by email to follow.

We had 11 people join the membership of Glenwood Presbyterian today. That represents more than a 10% growth in one day! Several of these were young people and three were baptized for the first time today as they made their profession of faith in Jesus Christ. We look forward to seeing these young people mature in their faith in the coming years.
For more pictures of the ceremony, click here. I took the pictures with my cellphone, so they aren’t the best quality, but it will give you the idea.

Hello Glenwood-ites -
I am asking for anyone with pictures from our Homecoming celebration that you can email to me. I’ll put them on the GPC website on the news and events page.
Thanks in advance!

After months and months of speculation, it’s finally here! Christian Endeavor has released their debut album entitled Always Loved You. The album contains 11 of your favorites, plus one never before publicly performed song as a bonus. We are currently offering a deal where if you buy an album for $15, you get another album free to give to a friend to invite them to SHINE! If you would like to order yours, just email me at BTBeasley[at]triad.rr.com and I’ll see to it that you get yours ASAP!
To hear some clips from the album, go here.

On Sunday, a brand new Glenwood Presbyterian Church webpage will be unveiled and online. The page needed a cosmetic overhaul and now looks more current and modern. In addition, I hope the page is more user-friendly and has more of the information that you would like to have. Another reason I updated the page was to make it easier to update - the old one was taking up too much time to make small changes. I hope you like it - let me know your thoughts and/or other things you’d like to see on it by leaving comments here or emailing me.

This Sunday is Homecoming Sunday at Glenwood Presbyterian. One thing that means is seeing lots of faces of folks who have moved away but come back for homecoming whenever they can. Another thing it means is good food. We have a covered-dish luncheon after the worship service that I would put up against any church anywhere. It makes me hungry just thinking about it.

Three things you might have seen at Glenwood Presbyterian last Sunday morning:
1. Trien, a Vietnamese woman who lives across the street, coming down the aisle during a hymn to place her offering on the altar and bow to the cross. Trien is going through what is a scary time for her and it has caused her to be very demonstrative in church. What is interesting is that it is sweet to watch but scary in that “what is she getting ready to do?” sense. Oh that we could all worship without wondering what other people might think!
2. Eddie and his young grandson on the second row from the front. Eddie was explaining to his grandson Jeremy what the symbols in the sanctuary meant and helping him follow and understand the order of worship. A great picture of how we pass our faith and traditions to the next generations.
3. Missy sitting with two very young girls from the neighborhood who have attached themselves to her since she invited them to come in and eat and go to SHINE a couple of Sunday nights ago. They’re not interested in her name, they just know “she’s the lady that invited us.” The simplest things can make so much difference.
Wonder what we might see at church this Sunday? I hope we see you.
On another note, please keep the transition team in your prayers as we meet tonight and try to determine where God is calling our church in the near future.
