Brian,
Enjoyed this article. I especially liked the explaination of why church traditionally meets at 11:00 on Sunday morning. I never thought of that.

My family currently goes to a church that meets at 4:00 Saturday afternoon. Plenty of time to get ready, then we eat out after church for special family time. It's so nice to not be rushing off to church on Sunday mornings now; no fussing at each other as we inevitably run late. And Sunday is truly a day of rest for us now.

An Interdenominational church in Georgetown, Tx. (Sun City)
is looking for a pastor. We are a community of retired people over 55 years of age. Our pastor is retiring May 24. The congregation is made up of Presbyterians, Baptist, Methodist, Lutheran, Catholics. The Search Committee would like to put an ad in a Presbyterian monthly publication that we are looking for a pastor. The church is called The Worship Place and has a membership of over 800. Please contact me at the above email address or call me at 512/864-0586 if you have any questions.

Comment on We Need A Downpour, Part Two by Brian Beasley

I'll start off the comments here (and hopefully encourage a few more) by mentioning that this was a tough lesson to teach on this particular Sunday. We have just learned that someone connected to our church has cancer and may not have a very long time left to live. In this lesson, we deal with the understanding that God uses the pain and tribulation in our life many times to bring us to a "crisis," and call us back to a more closer walk with Him. Jeana and I had an interesting discussion last night about this idea of God "bringing about" or "causing" pain in our circumstances to get our attention. This is much too complex an issue for one like me to attempt to answer (especially since I am not a theologian) but let me give you my idea on the subject as an untrained layperson.

One additional disclaimer: My opinion on this is certainly not set in stone or even written in pen - it might change dramatically tomorrow.

I believe that in eternity, we will see that although God doesn't "cause" bad things to happen in the sense that we see cause and effect, everything that happens is woven within the great tapestry of God's will and human history. We will see how He masterfully wove everything together, the sinful actions of man along with the most sacrificial actions of man, to accomplish all of his greater purposes and when we step back and view human life and our individual lives, we will see how glorious and perfect it is in spite of the sin of mankind. The methaphor that I've seen used to attempt to explain this idea is that of a cross-stitch. The front of the finished cross-stitch shows a beautiful picture, but the back of it shows knots and stray pieces, and hardly anything seems to go together or look right. Right now, that's the side that we see as we endure troubles and hardships and see the sin in the world. But God is in control and is stitching a masterpiece.

Thoughts, comments?

I'm also interested to hear about some "wake-up" calls that some of you have gotten from God.

Brian, this was very interesting. What do you feel this video clip teaches us? Why should we expect this couple to return, or not return, based on their experience? I'll start the ball rolling. I saw a greeter who wasn't paying attention. Then, the judgmental "up and down" look from the man in the suit.

Who else would like to comment on this? What other negative experience may lead this couple to decide not to return? Wsa there anything positive about their experience? I think it will be fun (and yes, informative) for us to analyze this as a church.

Click here to read the article Kevin mentions.

I believe that God is calling GPC to begin some sort of college ministry. I am praying that he will raise up a leader in our church for this area who can organize a way to reach out to these students who are so close. Certainly, we would love to have this age group start attending our church, and the location is convenient.
